Free Healthcare / dental

Medical and dental care is free and will usually be carried out by the Army medical team but if you need to be referred elsewhere you will be. The Army provides specialist help to servicewomen on a range of issues from cervical cancer screening to pregnancy. Whether suffering a physical or mental health injury, on or off duty or diagnosed with a serious illness, the Army will support our soldier’s recovery. All soldiers have full access to:

Sport and Adventure

Keeping fit and active: Many bases have gym & sports facilities on site as well as free access to gyms and sports facilities around the UK by showing your MOD 90

Adventurous Training: There are very few pursuits that the Army doesn't do and most give you opportunities to travel to new and interesting places around the world. Its an important part of Army life and builds practical skills and teamwork. Hard work and really challenging but so rewarding and you get paid while you do it!


High quality subsidised accommodation all over the world! In or around your place of work either single or as a family, the Army will provide accommodation to suit your needs at a vastly subsidised cost. They will even help you get on the property ladder with the Army Help to Buy Scheme.

Qualifications without the debt

The Army is one of the largest providers of apprenticeships in the UK providing 43 nationally recognised programmes and having 14,000 soldiers taking part at any one time. There are 8 different areas you can choose from:

They are designed to fit around your military training and relate closely to your role. They are recognised qualifications that will also be valued by employers outside of the Army. No matter what your job role, the Army offers the opportunity to gain professional qualifications and skills including full bachelor’s and master’s degrees!! With no student debt - you really are earning as you’re learning!!

30 days plus Bank Holidays. In addition to this there are extra leave provisions to cover practically every eventuality:

The most Awesome Pension

The Army provides one of the most generous pensions in the UK. Unlike all other public schemes, the Army pays 100% of the contributions to your pension and the employee contributes 0%. If you serve for 20 years you are then entitled to a lump sum.
