Training For The Role
Step 1
You'll start with your initial military training which will teach you how to be a soldier - this will cover everything from fieldcraft to how to handle a rifle. If you join as a Junior Soldier (under 17 years 5 months), you’ll do a 23-week basic military training course at Harrogate. If you join as a Regular Soldier (over 17 years 1 month), you’ll do the regular 14-week adult basic training.
Step 2
You then get 15 weeks’ specialist training at Worthy Down, Winchester to learn about military personnel and financial administration. You’re trained to use our information systems and will also get your Category B Driving licence (car). Later in your career, you can take recognised qualifications in Business Management and HR. These include apprenticeships and degrees.

Qualifications You Could Get After Training
- Level 2 Certificate for Military Personnel Administrators.
- Level 3 Diploma for Military Personnel Administrators.
- Business Administration Apprenticeship – Level 2 or 3 including Functional Skills in Maths, English and IT.
- Training is accredited by the Defence Awarding Organisation, Institute of Leadership and Management and Chartered Management Institute, ranging from Levels 4 to 7.
- Personal development opportunity to undertake a foundation degree in HR Practice.
- Opportunity to apply for accountancy training after qualifying period and selection.
- Cat B Driving Licence.

HOW TO APPLY
Training For The Role
Step 1
Complete your basic training and learn to be soldier. This happens over several weekends, with a week-long residential course at the end.
Step 2
Then, you take the Service Initial Personnel Administration course. When you finish, you’ll be an Army-qualified HR Specialist. You’ll spend at least 27 days per year with us – usually one evening a week, one weekend a month and a two-week annual camp.
Reservists get bonuses for completing training each year and annual pay rises.

Pay and Benefits
You'll get paid a day rate according to your rank, starting from £42.29 in training and rising to £53.79 per day once you're a Private. This includes being paid for weekly drill nights. Plus, if you complete all of your annual training days, you're entitled to a tax-free lump sum called a bounty.
